Wheat and Tares

This favorite parable from Matthew 13, where Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to the farmer who plants good seed, is set to music while echoing The Lord’s Prayer.

Wheat and Tares

Preview

The serpent would despoil the righteous farmer’s field
With aggressive mental tares that force lesser seeds to yield.
But the seeds of Truth and Spirit have borne a crop of wheat
To make Christ’s bread of salvation eternally sweet.

The kingdom of heaven within you is like the farmer’s crop.
The grain will grow to harvest; no blight can make it stop
If we guard our fields and burn the weeds the enemy has sown.
God’s kingdom will shine more brightly if we see it as our own.

Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Seeds of fear, misunderstanding, revenge, hypocrisy,
Grow the tares that imprison man and deny his liberty.
Mortal thoughts of self-pity, anger, pride, and hate
Must be weeded out by humility, patience, love, and grace.

Tares are the enemy’s lie that we’re not in God’s presence;
But God, good, fills all space; the wheat His very essence.
So, ignite the fire of Spirit to burn the tares in your field,
And see the eternal riches your crop of wheat will yield.

Are there any tares of mortal thought that survive divine Love’s purging
When the wheat of inspiration is continually emerging?
Let Love divine correct you; let the tares be burned away,
And your fields will produce the fullness of the kingdom of God today.

Thy kingdom come.
Thy will is done on earth as it is in heaven.
